CHAINS
Dear Customer,
TVH would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to the wide variety of chains that are currently available in the market place and how to identify the correct chain types to suit your application.
1. Chains can be split into 2 different categories: roller chain and flyer chain
1.1. Roller chain

Roller chain is mainly used as a steering chain. There are 3 different types:
|
1.2. Flyer chain ~ lift chain ~ leaf chain
The flyer chain is mainly used as lift chain. The flyer chain consists of a number of plates placed next to each other. The higher the quantity of the plates, the higher the lift capacity of the chain is.
2. How to identify and/or order your chain?
- if you know the reference of the chain, you can use this number
- if you don’t know the reference of the chain, TVH offers you 3 possibilities to identify the chain by using the measurements.
- you can look for the correct reference in our list of chains
- you can fill out our technical form so our engineers can identify the chain for you:
- type and serial number + mast number of the truck

4.1. Pin

4.2. Link and end plate

4.3. Anchor
Please note: if you want to order a chain anchor, we need all details mentioned on below picture, but the most important thing is the chain type!

5. Safety regulations and maintenance of your chain
- elongation is inevitable, even when perfectly maintained. This wear is mainly found on the piece of chain that runs over the chain roller. The elongation margin is fixed at 3% (30mm per meter, in other words, when loaded, the length of 33 links equals 34 links of a new chain. In the UK however, the limit is 2%!
- if the truck is fitted with 2 chains, then both will need to be replaced at the same time. The chain pin between chain and anchor also needs to be replaced!
- the cleaning of the chain can only be done with a paraffin derivative such as diesel, fuel or petroleum. After cleaning, the chain needs to be re lubricated, with chain spray. (TVH ref. 105TA4644)
- please do not use cold and acid-products to clean the chain! Pure water and/or steam (without additive) are less harmful but they cause corrosion, which will affect the life of your chain.
