How to jump-start engines with ease

05 May 2021

When a forklift engine won’t start, its stuttering sounds like a limp battle cry. Frustration sets in and time slips away as you try to solve the problem. Was the machine left out in the cold? Or has it been sitting around unused for a while? No matter what caused the flat battery, the most important task at hand is getting the machine powered up and back on the job. And the easiest way to do that is with a jump starter.

Start your engines on you own

Jump starters are sometimes called start boosters or battery boosters. They provide the power to jump-start an engine when the battery is completely flat, or even when there’s no battery present at all. Jump starters work in the same way as jumper cables, but they bring their own juice. This means you can bring a lifeless engine back from the brink all by yourself; there’s no need to call for back-up. They’re perfect for getting forklifts and other industrial machines back to work quickly.

We offer a great range of Energic Plus jump starters at TVH. Each of them is equipped with Reverse Polarity Protection, a unique safety system that prevents malfunctioning. Be sure to select a model that’s a match for your industrial machine(s).

Choosing the right jump starter

The most important factors to consider are the peak amps and cranking amps. The peak amps, or peak power rating, is the maximum power output. Cranking amps refers to how much power a battery can discharge for 30 seconds at 0°C. This is the amount of power you need to start the engine in most weather conditions. In the middle of a cold, dark winter, you may need a jump starter with more cranking amps.

If your machine’s electrical system is 12 V, you need a 12 V jump starter. When dealing with a 24 V system, you can choose either a 12 V or 12/24 V model.

Are you working with industrial vehicles, construction equipment or other heavy equipment? Then take a look at the 12/24 V, heavy-duty jump starter. It’s on wheels for easy transportation and can also be used for starting 12 V batteries. This makes it an excellent solution for worksites with multiple types of machines.
