Forklift timing parts

Engine parts

Timing parts for forklifts synchronise the rotation of the crankshaft and the camshaft. For diesel engines, they also synchronise the injection pump. This enables the engine’s valves to open and close at the proper times during each cylinder intake and exhaust stroke. Having a synchronised system is very important; it prevents the piston from hitting the valves.

Timing parts include:

  • Timing chains
  • Timing belts
  • Chain tensioners
  • Belt tensioners
  • Timing gears
  • Idlers, deflection pulleys or rollers
  • Chain guides or sliding rails

Through a combination of these timing parts, the engine can be driven in three ways:

  • Exclusively by timing gears.
  • By a timing chain in combination with timing gears, chain tensioners and chain guides.
  • By a timing belt in combination with timing gears, belt tensioners and idlers or rollers.

The functions of different timing parts

Timing chains and timing belts

A timing belt is a belt with teeth, whereas a timing chain is a chain with several links. A timing belt or timing chain is used to connect the most important parts of your engine, such as the camshaft and the crankshaft. This enables synchronised movements of the engine’s valves and pistons.

Chain tensioners and belt tensioners

Chain tensioners and belt tensioners are used to put tension onto the belt or chain. They tighten the belt in such a way that it can’t get loose from the gears or idler pulleys. Chain and belt tensioners are available in hydraulic and mechanical versions.

Idlers, deflection pulleys or rollers

Idlers are often used to guide the belt onto a certain path, in situations where a direct path would be impractical. They also increase the wrap angle of the belt and by doing so, increase the force-transfer capacity.

Timing gears

These are gears that the timing belt or timing chain run over. They’re equipped with teeth that fit perfectly with the profile of the belt or chain.

Our range includes timing chains, timing belts and tensioners for forklifts from the following brands:

  • Belts: Optibelt, Gates, Contitech, Mitsuboshi, Bando, Hutchinson and Goodyear.

Maintenance tips for forklift timing parts

If a timing belt breaks while the engine is running, it can cause a whole lot of damage. That’s why it’s very important to replace timing parts after ± 2000 hours of operation, following the manufacturer’s specifications, even if they still appear to be in good shape. Waiting until they’re visibly worn out is simply not worth the risk. It’s a good idea to replace the timing belt, tensioner, idler and in some engines, the water pump at the same time.

During every minor service (every 250 operating hours, for example) it is advisable to perform a visual check of all timing parts. Small signs of damage, e.g. tiny cracks, mean the part should immediately be replaced. Make sure quality OEM parts are used. And always follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

Quality timing parts for forklift, approved by our strict quality control department

Our quality control department follows strict standards to ensure only quality forklift timing parts make it onto our shelves:

  1. Sourcing and rating suppliers: New and existing suppliers face regular quality assessments. We thoroughly test the quality, packaging and overall reliability of each product.
  2. Sample testing: All samples received from suppliers are subjected to in-depth quality testing.
  3. Checks and storage: Incoming parts are measured and tested against specs for the specific part, as well as technical data, technical drawings and sample testing reports. Once approved, the part is given an internal code and label, individually packed and then stored in our warehouse where conditions such as humidity and temperature are constantly monitored.
