Thermostats
The thermostat is located between the engine and the radiator. Its job is quite easy: it helps the engine warm up faster by blocking the coolant until the engine has warmed up completely. When the engine reaches its optimal operating temperature, the thermostat opens up so the coolant can flow through the engine block. How does this nifty device know when it needs to open up? The answer is obvious: this wax inside the small cylinder of the thermostat starts to melt after being warmed up, causing the valve inside the thermostat to open up.
