How to spot radiator leaks easily by following the coolant flow

The coolant leak can have a wide range of causes. Our in-house experts are more than happy to illustrate this with some of the most common situations: 

• Over-consumption of water: Can be caused by even the smallest hole in the radiator.  

• When starting the machine, check if there isn’t too much water damp escaping the engine exhaust. This can point to a broken head gasket. 

•  Check the engine oil. When there’s water in the oil, a problem with the head gasket can be the cause. 

• Smaller leaks are the result of damaged hoses and hose connections.

• If the coolant level is very low and even adding additional coolant doesn’t switch off the signal lights: there can be damage to the radiator expansion tank. When cracked, coolant could be leaking out very gradually. 

• When you are faced with radiator fluid leaking out of the front of the machine towards the centre, there’s a problem with the water pump. Once worn out, cracked or loosened, it’s time to replace the pumps.
