What is a hydraulic pump?

Hydraulic pumps convert mechanical power into hydraulic energy. How? By performing a mechanical action that creates a vacuum. This forces liquid from the reservoir into the pump’s inlet. The pump’s mechanical action delivers liquid through the pump’s outlet and into the hydraulic system. The liquid then runs throughout the hydraulic system and back to the reservoir. By repeating this process, hydraulic fluid can flow steadily through the system.

Gear pumps

Gear pumps

Gear pumps are commonly used for hydraulic fluid power applications in machines like forklifts. With a simple design, they’re a cost-efficient solution that’s easy to use and easy to maintain. Our product range includes both internal and external gear pumps.

An external gear pump has two identical gears that typically turn towards each other. Displacement chambers form between the gear tooth profiles, the internal walls of the housing and the surfaces of the bearing blocks. The oil is transported from the suction side to the pressure side within these chambers. The flow of a gear pump is fixed per rotation.

An internal gear pump operates in the same way. It has two interlocking gears of different sizes. The larger gear (rotor) is the internal gear. The smaller external gear, also known as the idler, rotates inside the large gear. When the two gears interlock, the liquid is pushed forward under pressure.

Vane pumps

Vane pumps

A vane pump has a pump chamber, inside which is a central rotor that’s equipped with several vanes. These vanes push the incoming hydraulic fluid through the pumping chamber that goes from the pump’s inlet to its outlet.

Vane pumps are distinguished from other pumps by the low level of noise they generate, their ease of maintenance and their extensive lifespan. Thanks to their high level of quality, they can be used in both low and high-pressure applications up to 200 bar (2900 PSI).

 Piston pumps

Piston pumps

A piston pump is a highly reliable solution that delivers impressive performance. This type of pump can operate with pressure levels of more than 350 bar (5000 PSI).

The piston pump’s mechanical action creates a vacuum at the pump’s inlet that allows atmospheric pressure to force liquid from the reservoir into the pump’s inlet line. The mechanical action then delivers this liquid to the pump’s outlet and forces it into the hydraulic system.

A piston pump has regulators that can vary the flow per rotation of the pump, making a piston pump more efficient than a gear pump.
