9 most frequently asked questions in electronics

15 January 2024

Electronics can be quite complex. This can make it hard to install it or set it up. Fortunately, TVH has a dedicated team of experts available to help you with your questions regarding electronics.
Our technical advisors answer a wide range of questions, but some come by more frequently than others. To give you a head start, we’ve compiled a list of our 9 most frequently asked questions.

1. Can TVH help me with my questions?

Yes, we can! Our helpdesk is open during office hours and consists of a team of experts helping you with all your questions. You can get in touch with your sales representative, who will direct the enquiry to our helpdesk.

Our helpdesk receives some 150 questions a week. So, in order to answer your question faster, make sure to provide us with the following information:

  • your TVH account number
  • the brand of your machine
  • the model of your machine
  • the year of construction
  • the serial number.

This way, we immediately know which service manual to consult.

We have a large number of troubleshooting documentation available for frequently asked questions. This way, we can quickly determine and solve your problem.

2. I have an error code. Can you help me?

Yes. Knowing the specific machine the error code applies to allows us to quickly search for the error code in the right service manual, pinpoint the exact problem and advise you on which steps to take.
In some cases, we can even determine the root cause of the problem. After all, the error code can just be a symptom of the error instead of the error itself. By digging a bit deeper, we can help you eliminate this problem.

3. Can you give me the electric schematics of my machine?

Our database has electrical diagrams for an extensive range of machines. So, in most cases, we will have this information available and are happy to share it.
In some cases, you will need the hydraulic diagram as well. If available, you can make use of this particular diagram.

4. Can you help me with the calibration of my part?

There can be a number of reasons why your machine isn’t working, despite fitting a brand-new part. Electrical and electronic parts like joysticks or control units often need to be calibrated before their first use. Get in touch, and we’ll guide you step by step through the calibration process.

5. What do I need to activate UDS100?

UDS100 is a diagnostic software tool developed by UMS to help you with Linde, Jungheinrich and Still machines. It helps you perform diagnostics, set parameters, read error codes and perform calibrations. You can contact us to assist with the activation of the software, as well as a renewal of your license or the expansion of your package.

6. Can you help me set the parameters for my part?

Setting up the parameters – for instance, of a joystick or an accelerator – essentially means determining the zero point and maximum point. TVH can help you set the right parameters for your part within the necessary safety tolerances. Keep in mind that we only offer advice based on the information we have been provided. The final checks and responsibilities always remain with the customer.

7. My diagnostics device doesn’t seem to be working. What’s wrong?

Usually, you need a dedicated diagnostics device specific to your machine’s make and model in order to read error codes, set up parameters or perform calibrations. These handheld devices aren’t universally compatible with every machine.

Don’t worry, we can help. Generally, you will need a device compatible with your machine's make and model. If necessary, we can offer short-term rental for diagnostics devices (only OEM) to help you out temporarily.

8. How do I connect this part to my machine?

Your machine is built to last. It can be used for years or even decades. This also means it’s quite possible that some parts present in your machine have since been updated to the next generation. For instance, your new part's wire colour coding differs from the old one.

We’re happy to help. Send a picture or a video of your situation, and we will help you install the new part in your machine in no time.

9. Is the part that I purchased plug & play?

You might have expected your control unit or PCB to be plug-and-play. Plug-and-play parts have all the right calibrations or parameters preset; you just need to connect the part to your machine.

Unfortunately, this is less often the case than you might hope, and you find yourself with a part that still needs calibration or parameters set up, or worse, a part with different firmware.

We want to be as clear as possible in our communication with you. So, if a part is plug-and-play, we will mention it explicitly in your quotation. If no mention is made, you can always contact us and we’ll resolve any doubts about whether your part is plug-and-play and to what extent.
