Every single part counts

A turbocharger is more than just the combination of a turbine and a compressor housing. The exhaust gas from the engine passes through several complex parts and is used by the turbo to increase the intake of fresh air into the engine.

●  The exhaust manifold:

The first component in the exhaust system is the exhaust manifold. It collects the exhaust fumes released from the engine cylinders and directs them to the catalytic converter. In turbocharged engines, the turbocharger is situated downstream of the exhaust manifold.

●  Air and oil hoses

• Air hoses: transport cool air to the engine.

• Oil hoses: provide the desired amount of lubrication to the turbocharger unit by transporting oil from the engine block directly     to the bearing system. This gives the needed lubrication and cooling to the shaft of the turbo.

●  Turbocharger

• Bearings: small but essential parts in supporting and controlling the different movements of the turbo components. Also, they allow the turbo wheels to spin at a very high pace.  

• Compressor: the part that draws in outside air, pressurises it further and pushes it into the combustion chambers through the inlet manifold.

•  Turbine: the ‘hot side’ of the turbo generates the rotational force used to power the compressor.

•  Complete turbochargers: the turbocharger forces compressed air into the cylinders. Combined with fuel, this creates a bigger bang and results in more power. The greatest advantage is that more power is available at a lower RPM. Subsequently, a faulty turbocharger is instantly noticeable by a loss of engine power.
