International Reman Day is always a special day at TVH. For the global parts specialist for off-highway machinery, it’s a perfect opportunity to look back at its accomplishments and look forward to its future endeavours.
Remanufacturing (REMAN) is deeply rooted in the DNA of TVH. While the division was formally started in 1995, remanufacturing parts has been a core activity since the foundation of TVH in 1969. In a recent interview, founder Paul Thermote mentioned how the company’s early days were filled with overhauling complete forklifts. “We hired a mechanic whose sole job was to disassemble old machines and remanufacture parts. Most rebuilt items we sold back then were parts like starters, alternators and cylinders.”
Today, Remanufacturing at TVH has clearly evolved into a powerhouse, employing over 250 people across 6 locations worldwide. Each year, more than 100,000 parts are remanufactured to a quality level equivalent to new parts, and over 70,000 remanufactured parts are available in stock.
Remanufacturing, as a part of the Sustainability pillar, is a vital part of TVH’s strategic focus. Recently, the company developed a new visual identity for its REMAN offering to emphasise its strategic focus and added value: customers receive a remanufactured part that matches the quality of a new one at a reduced price.
To TVH, REMAN is built on three pillars:
- Firstly, parts are remanufactured to OEM/OES standards. This means that TVH does not do superficial repairs; parts are inspected and disassembled, and defective and worn components are replaced by default. After reassembly, the remanufactured parts are verified on in-house test benches to ensure quality. This is backed by the same warranty as new parts. In short, REMAN parts are rebuilt to perform like new, just at a lower cost.
- Next, REMAN at TVH exists to help extend the lifespan of off-road equipment. Plus, it is the perfect solution for hard-to-find parts.
- Lastly, TVH actively contributes to a circular economy through REMAN by reusing parts. This way, the life of existing parts is extended, raw materials are kept in circulation, and TVH prevents waste from entering landfills. Every year, TVH recycles more than 1,500 tonnes of recycled material.
Historically, TVH has built a vast REMAN product portfolio with a strong focus on the material handling market, offering a broad REMAN product range from printed circuit boards, controllers, and joysticks to electric motors, steering axles, and hydraulics. Building on this success, we are continuously expanding our range and also venturing into new markets. In recent years, we have developed offerings for the agricultural sector and the EV charging and solar inverter markets. This ongoing diversification underscores our commitment to growth, as we continue to invest heavily in expanding our REMAN activities to support these evolving industries.
