Discover how TVH's test benches contribute to REMAN

13 June 2022

At TVH, we make every effort to keep valuable raw materials and components in circulation, thereby preventing waste. This is why we always try to repair malfunctioning or broken parts first. Our in-house test benches play a critical role in this process by enabling us to diagnose, repair and test parts in simulated real-world working conditions. Every day, our specialised technicians ensure that REMAN parts meet our quality standards.

Driven by specialised technicians

Our repair and REMAN activities are driven by a team of specialist in-house technicians and engineers. They carefully transform old parts by completely dismantling, cleaning and repairing each component, ensuring that they look and function like new. The parts also undergo rigorous quality control and testing to guarantee their performance.

Supported by test benches

All testing is made possible thanks to our in-house test benches. At TVH, we have been remanufacturing parts since 1969, so we draw on over 55 years of experience to develop these innovative testing procedures. This gives them a number of important advantages:

  • Accuracy: The test benches provide accurate fault detection and comprehensive, correct diagnoses.
  • Speed: Testing procedures are carried out quickly yet thoroughly.

Quality: The test benches simulate real-world working conditions to ensure the high quality of each tested part.

Hydraulic test benches

In addition, our many years of experience in REMAN have enabled us to develop a wide range of test benches, including:

Hydraulic test benches

We have multiple test benches for testing hydraulic parts, such as hydraulic pumps and motors, valves, cylinders, and more. While all test benches are designed to simulate real-world working conditions, some of our hydraulic test benches are connected to a test truck, producing test results that perfectly replicate real-life conditions.

Transmission test benches

These test benches allow technicians to test transmissions of all sizes. The test bench for large transmissions is connected to a V8 diesel engine, while the one for smaller transmissions is connected to a hydraulic unit and the necessary electronics for continuously adjusting the rotational frequency and gear. These setups simulate real-life conditions, enabling us to check operating pressures, torque converter pressure, pump pressure, and gear-change pressure.

Reductor test bench

This test bench enables technicians to assess the performance of the gearboxes that provide the mechanical transmission between the electric motor and the wheels of an electric machine. Testing always happens under load to simulate real-world working conditions.

Functional test benches

Functional test benches (‘test towers’)

Our functional test benches, also known as test towers, allow us to test hundreds of different electronic parts, such as motor controllers, joysticks, displays and timer modules. If a test returns an error code, this code indicates where the problem is located, making it easier to find a specific solution. A dedicated team of R&D specialists is constantly developing new test routines to accommodate new parts.

Universal and automated power test benches

Universal test benches can test large electronic parts under load, whereas automated power test benches perform high-power functional and endurance tests on electronic motor controllers. Both types are being developed to be fully automated, eliminating the need for a manual middleman and ensuring that each test is performed in exactly the same way.

Charger tester

Our charger tester enables technicians to test various types of chargers by simulating the battery charging process. The tester is currently being redesigned to be fully automated and more environmentally friendly. Instead of being wasted as unnecessary heat, the supplied power will be fed back into the grid.

Advantages of test benches

Joystick endurance tester

The joystick endurance tester guarantees the highest quality of all the joysticks in our range. During testing, a joystick is moved back and forth continuously to determine exactly how many working cycles it lasts. To comply with our service-life standard for joysticks, they must meet or exceed the quality of new parts.

Constant development

Most of our test benches have been developed and constructed by our in-house engineers, often in collaboration with technical students. But they are also continually being developed. While the test benches themselves represent a significant investment, their development does too. They require a serious financial investment and take a long time. However, we are happy to make these investments, since the benefits are enormous. The most important benefit, of course, is that our customers receive only parts of the highest possible quality.
