External gear pumps have two identical gears that typically turn towards each other. Oil is transported via displacement chambers that form between the gear tooth profiles, internal walls of the housing, and the surfaces of the bearing blocks. The oil flow is fixed per rotation. - Internal gear pumps operate in the same way as external gear pumps, but the two gears are different sizes. The larger gear (rotor) is the internal gear, and the smaller gear (idler) rotates inside the larger gear. The liquid is pushed forward under pressure when the two gears interlock.
Vane pumps offer a low-noise solution, easy maintenance, and a long lifespan. They have a pump chamber with a central rotor inside that’s equipped with several vanes. The vanes push hydraulic fluid through the pump chamber from the pump’s inlet to its outlet. Vane pumps are suitable for both high- and low-pressure applications up to 200 bar (2900 PSI). - Piston pumps are incredibly reliable and deliver impressive performance. They can operate with pressure levels higher than 350 bar (5000 PSI). Piston pumps use mechanical action to force liquid from the reservoir into the pump’s inlet, through the pump, and out into the hydraulic system. Thanks to regulators that vary the flow per rotation of the pump, piston pumps are the most efficient hydraulic pumps for golf carts.
