Discover our range of air brake camshafts
The stroke of the air brake chamber pushrod acts on the slack adjuster attached to the end of the camshaft. This stroke causes the camshaft to rotate. The “S” shape on one end of the camshaft forces the brake shoes apart and against the brake drum.
Drum brakes work exclusively with an S-cam. Drum brakes are favoured on bigger vehicles because they allow more surface area in brake pads, to get a heavier load slowed down more efficiently.
Your application determines the type of air brake camshaft you will need. For instance, the cam itself can be either left-handed or right-handed.
