TVH AND JACOTTE BROKKEN INSPIRE YOUNG PEOPLE WITH TECHNICAL CHALLENGE

On Wednesday 14th May, the finals of the second edition of the TVH Universalis Technicalis took place at parts specialist TVH in Waregem. This is a technical knock-out race inspired by the TV format Homo Universalis. More than 315 students from 11 technical and vocational schools registered and took up the challenge earlier this year to reach the finals. Weathercaster and scientist Jacotte Brokken presented the exciting final round again this year.

After an online preliminary round of logical-technical tests, 22 finalists remained, each proudly defending their school's honour. They competed for the title of best technical all-rounder and a nice grand prize: a new iPhone. The practical final tests were designed by Rik Hostyn of the Flemish STEM Olympiad. After an exciting battle, Noah Vandevyvere from the Guldensporencollege campus Engineering in Kortrijk won the final round.

TVH remains committed to engineering

TVH has been supporting engineering and STEM initiatives for years. ‘Engineering is essential to our operation, and we think it is important to play our part to get young people excited about these directions,’ says Talent Development Manager Koen Mathys. ‘We currently have 20 open technical vacancies ourselves, so we definitely see the importance of giving this enough attention.’

Employees join in too

After the competition for schools, it was the turn of TVH's own employees. As many as 40 colleagues entered their own edition of Universalis Technicalis. Besides eternal glory among their colleagues, there was also a fun prize to be won. This year, the honour of best technical all-rounder among employees went to Ruben De Zutter, who took home a drone as the winner of the competition.
