Don't Be That Guy!
You may think you’re a pro at texting, but did you know that walking while texting, talking on the phone, or listening to music is distracting and dangerous? These issues can occur in any type of workplace, and the material handling and equipment industry is no exception. TVH takes safety very seriously because, without it, it can lead to loss of life, significant personal injuries, or damage to property and products. Pedestrians need to be on high alert when walking in the warehouse or outside on their employer’s property. June is National Safety Month, so it is a perfect opportunity to focus on safety.
While most safety rules seem like common sense, it’s amazing how often they are ignored or broken. Some of the most common safety rules that are broken when walking at work are: being on your phone, having headphones on and wearing open-toed shoes. Pedestrians following these rules will always be safe, no matter the environment you are walking in. Nancy Strano, who is the safety manager at TVH had this to say, “Distracted walking causes more injuries than texting while driving. Pay attention while walking. Your social media update can wait”.
If you are walking outside, keep these tips in mind. Always make sure to walk on sidewalks or designated paths, look both ways before crossing the street and don’t walk out between cars or equipment. A study done by the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons shows that 48% of people who walk distracted say, they just don’t think about it. Not being aware of your surroundings can lead to very serious workplace issues.
At TVH, we take the safety of our employees and our customers very seriously. Walking inside a warehouse, as well outside each come with their own distractions and risks. That’s why at TVH we not only carry a wide range of pedestrian safety products like pedestrian sensors, strobe lights, backup alarms and more to fit your needs but we use them to keep our employees safe. Following these safety rules and using quality safety products from TVH helps foster a safe environment for everyone.
