What obstacles or threats are we currently facing in the lighting market? How does TVH respond to these obstacles?
Gert-Jan: In terms of production, we mainly encounter difficulties relating to volumes; if we want to develop a new TotalSource product, there must, of course, be sufficient volumes to justify it without risking oversupply. There can sometimes be as many as 15 different models of a single product type. I like to compare it to a restaurant menu: if there are too many options, the customer can no longer choose. That is why, based on feedback, we offer a clear, standard range. In addition, we’re grappling with well-known supply chain issues and the availability of raw materials such as magnets and certain metals. Obtaining the necessary certificates and compliance approvals for the European market also takes time. And another major technological hurdle is the CAN bus system, where the lights have an electronic control unit that communicates with the vehicle. It's something that cannot simply be replicated in the aftermarket. We address this by building good relationships with OEM suppliers to offer compatible, fully functional versions. Finally, the fierce price competition in the market is unmistakable, especially in regions where people mainly make price-driven decisions. We’re responding by adding LED alternatives to our Economy Line to remain competitive in those regions.
